David A. Yovanno
Chief Executive Officer
Dave is responsible for Marin’s overall strategic direction and execution. Prior to joining Marin in May 2014, Dave first joined Conversant, Inc. (formerly ValueClick, Inc.) in 2000 and held a number of leadership positions for U.S. media including executive vice president of sales and marketing, general manager and chief operating officer until 2008. Dave left Conversant in 2008 to be CEO of Gigya, a high-growth social technology SaaS company based in Silicon Valley, and then rejoined Conversant in 2011. Most recently, Dave served as President, Technology Solutions (formerly Mediaplex) for Conversant from 2011-2014 and was responsible for the company's Technology Solutions globally, Media Solutions internationally, the company's DSP solution, driving cross-solution synergies and assisting with the Company's corporate development program. Dave served on the board of the Interactive Advertising Bureau and in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant and CIO. Dave is a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and master's degree in health services administration..
Dey has over 25 years experience in technology management, with extensive expertise in platform development, business and technology strategy definition, team development, and program management. Dey joins Marin from Intel, where he was most recently Director of Hadoop Engineering and was responsible for managing a team of over 50 architects and engineers building world-class Apache Hadoop projects. He previously led large development teams at eBay, where he helped redefine strategy for Hadoop engineering investments and oversaw delivery of a large-scale in-house cloud environment, and Yahoo, where he was Lead Program Manager and delivered a Hadoop-as-a-Service product used by 1,000 users on 40,000 nodes.
Chief Financial Officer
Catriona Fallon is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer reporting to CEO David A. Yovanno. In her capacity as CFO, Catriona serves as Marin Software’s principal financial and accounting officer, responsible for directing all aspects of Marin Software’s financial operations. Prior to joining Marin Software, Catriona worked at Cognizant, a global leader in business and technology services. At Cognizant, Catriona was a Vice President of Finance and Chief of Staff to the CFO from 2013 until July 2015. Prior to Cognizant, Catriona held several leadership positions at Hewlett-Packard Company, including Vice President of Strategy and Financial Planning (2012 to 2013), Director of Investor Relations (2010 to 2012), and Director of Strategy and Corporate Development (2009 to 2010). Previously, Catriona was a top ranked Wall Street analyst covering media and technology companies at Citigroup Investment Research. Catriona’s professional experience also includes roles with Piper Jaffrey & Company, McKinsey & Company and Oracle Corporation. Catriona has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Economics from UCLA.
Stephen E. Kim
EVP, General Counsel
Stephen brings more than twenty years of legal experience to Marin. Prior to joining Marin, Stephen worked at Diamond Foods, Inc., a consumer packaged goods company headquartered in San Francisco. During his tenure at Diamond, Stephen was EVP, General Counsel and Chief Legal and Compliance Officer from March 2014 to September 2014; SVP, General Counsel from January 2008 to March 2014; and VP, General Counsel from March 2005 to January 2008. Previously, Mr. Kim served as General Counsel for Oblix, Inc., an enterprise software company in Cupertino, California, from 2000 to March 2005, at which time Oblix was acquired by Oracle Corporation. Before joining Oblix, Mr. Kim was an attorney with Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati, a law firm located in Palo Alto, California, from 1996 to 1999 and Weil Gotshal & Manages, a law firm located in New York, New York, from 1994 to 1996. Mr. Kim received his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was an editor with the NYU Law Review, and earned his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
Chief Sales Officer
As Chief Sales Officer, Russell is globally responsible for all new business revenue across both Agencies and Advertisers. Russell has extensive experience ramping up revenue and deploying effective & scalable sales practices for rapidly growing companies in the business intelligence, media and analytics industries. Prior to Marin Software, Russell was SVP Sales at several SaaS start-ups including Overtone, a social sentiment analytics provider and PopularMedia a creative media optimization platform. Previously, as VP Sales at Coremetrics, Russell oversaw revenue growth for this Web Analytic innovator from $4 to $45 million with an increase in customers from 100 to over 1,000 in a 4 year period. Earlier in his career, Russell also served as VP of Business Development at IRI Software, a Nielson competitor, and headed up Western Regional Sales for enterprise reporting provider Crystal Decisions. Russell graduated with honors from Colorado College with a degree in Business / Economics.
Board of Directors
Paul brings more than 20 years of experience in finance, technology and corporate leadership to the Board. Since March 2007, Paul has served as the Chief Financial Officer of Proofpoint, Inc., a provider of security-as-a-service solutions. From September 2006 to March 2007, Paul was with Benchmark Capital as an entrepreneur-in-residence. Prior to that, from 2002 to July 2006, Paul served as the Chief Financial Officer at VMware, Inc. Previously, Paul served as the Chief Financial Officer for Vitria Technology, Inc., an eBusiness platform company and held various executive positions at VLSI Technology, Inc., a semiconductor and circuit manufacturing company, including Vice President of the Internet and Secure Products Division. Since 2007, Paul has served on the board of directors for Quantum Corporation, and currently serves as Chairman of the Board. From 2009 to 2010, Paul served on the board of directors of OpenTV Corp. Paul holds an A.B. in Engineering Sciences and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Dartmouth College and a Master of Management degree in Finance and Marketing from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.
Paul is an experienced financial leader with the skills necessary to lead our audit committee. His current service as Chief Financial Officer at Proofpoint and service as a member of the audit committee of Quantum, as well as previously serving as Chief Financial Officer at VMware and chairman of the audit committee of OpenTV, have provided him with extensive financial and accounting experience, particularly in the areas of accounting principles, financial reporting rules and regulations, as well as in evaluating financial results and generally overseeing the financial reporting process at a public company.
Barrese is a technologist with more than 25 years of experience spanning the military, the academic world, business consulting, and enterprise platforms and infrastructure. He currently serves as CTO of PayPal, and previously spent nearly 10 years in executive technology roles at eBay, where he was most recently VP of Technology. Earlier in his career, he was VP of engineering at Charitableway, a manager at Andersen Consulting, and programmer in the Materials Science Department at Stanford University. He got his start in technology with the Signal Corps in the U.S. Army. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
Gordon co-founded Journalism Online, LLC, a provider of e-commerce solutions for publishers, in April 2009. From 2008 until April 2009, Gordon was an active angel investor in, and advisor to, privately held media and technology companies. Prior to that, Gordon worked at Dow Jones from 1980 until December 2007 in a variety of positions, most recently as a publisher of the Wall Street Journal and executive vice president. Gordon is a member of the boards of directors of American Association of Rhodes Scholars, Blurb, Business Insider, Dun & Bradstreet, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, ProQuest and Star Tribune Media. Gordon holds an A.B. in Politics, Economics and Rhetoric and Law from the University of Chicago, a B.A. in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
Gordon brings to our board of directors a diversity of distinguished experiences and seasoned business acumen, particularly extensive experience in the media and publishing industries. His service on a number of company boards provides an important perspective on corporate governance matters, including best practices established at other companies.
Bruce is a seasoned veteran of venture capital with more than 20 years experience in high-tech investing. Since May 1995, Bruce has been a General Partner of Benchmark, a venture capital firm. Bruce has served as a member of the board of directors of ServiceSource International, Inc., a service support provider, since December 2004. Bruce previously served as a member of the board of directors of Rambus Inc., a technology licensing company, from March 1990 to June 2011, and as a member of the board of directors of Palm, Inc., a provider of mobile products, from October 2003 to October 2007. Bruce holds a B.A. in History and English from Rice University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Bruce is a longstanding member of our board of directors with a deep understanding of our business and our customer base.
Since 2002, Don’s principal employment has been as an angel investor in start-up technology companies. From June 2006 to July 2008, Don was the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Recurrent Energy, a solar energy provider. Prior to that, Don served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of work.com, a joint venture established by Dow Jones and Excite@Home. Don previously served in senior positions at Excite@Home and Netcom Communications. Don has previously served as a member of the board of directors of many privately-held companies, including, W&W Communications, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company, which was acquired by Cavium, Inc. Don holds a B.A. in Economics from University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.B.A. in Finance and Organizational Development from Loyola Marymount University.
Don brings to our board of directors significant experience analyzing and investing in other technology companies, as well as management and leadership experience as a former founder and executive of technology companies.
Leinwand is currently VP and CTO, Cloud Platform and Infrastructure of ServiceNow. His career spans over 25 years in the technology industry, including roles as CTO, founder, venture capitalist, and professor. Previously, Leinwand was CTO – Infrastructure of Zynga, where he oversaw all areas of cloud computing infrastructure for the social gaming company. Leinwand was also the founder and CEO of the software-defined networking company Vyatta, which was acquired by Brocade in 2012. He has also served as a venture partner at Panorama Capital and an operating partner at JP Morgan Partners, where he led investments in infrastructure and networking companies. He was also co-founder, president, and CEO of Proficient Networks, and earlier served as CTO and VP of engineering at Telegis Networks and Digital Island. Leinwand spent seven years at Cisco, where he was most recently manager of consulting engineering. He started his career as an Internet engineer at HP. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of California Berkeley, where he taught courses on computer network management and design. He is an expert in internetworking design and implementation and holds a patent in data routing. He holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Chris supports Marin’s overall strategic direction and execution. Chris founded Marin in 2006 and shortly thereafter invited Wister Walcott and Joe Chang to join him on the quest to develop an enterprise-class, online advertising management platform. Chris served as Marin's CEO from founding until May 2014 at which time he assumed the role of Executive Chairman. Prior to Marin, Chris served as Chief Operating Officer of Adteractive, an online performance marketing company, from 2004 to 2005. In 2001, Chris co-founded Sugar Media, a broadband services platform, which was sold in 2003 to 2Wire, a leading supplier of DSL equipment and services, which was subsequently acquired by Pace plc in 2010. Prior to founding Sugar Media, Chris served in various capacities, including as Chief Financial Officer and acting Chief Executive Officer, of BlueLight.com, Kmart’s e-commerce and Internet service provider subsidiary. Prior to Bluelight.com, Chris spent 10 years executing merger and financing transactions at investment banks, including Morgan Stanley and Evercore Partners, with his last role as managing director. Chris graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Dartmouth College and earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Middleton is an expert in the digital marketing space with more than 20 years in the industry. She recently joined Twitter as the head of global business marketing where she oversees sales enablement. Prior to Twitter, Middleton was CEO of Performics, Publicis Groupe’s lead search and performance agency. Additionally, she spent two years as a senior vice president at Moxie and over 15 years within Hewlett-Packard’s marketing department.
Middleton is the author of the book Marketing in the Participation Age. She is a regular industry speaker with appearances at Conversational Marketing Summit, ad:tech, WOMMA, VideoNuze, and iMedia, etc. She was named as one of Mobile Marketer’s Mobile Women to Watch, and in 2013 received the Gold Stevie® Award in the Executive of the Year – Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations category.
